Field Club 1997 Summer Programme

Most trips will start from the railway station car parks of Wick and Thurso, and usually car seats are available.

23 April, Wednesday, "The North Coast of Norway" by Alan Small, followed by the Field Club AGM, Halkirk School at 7.30pm.

27 April, Sunday, Bus Trip West led by Gordon Wilson and Marion Owen, will cost about £6 including bus, soup and sandwiches. Book 01847-895250. The bus will pick up at Wick 8.30am, Thurso 9am.

30 May, The Club Weekend at Ullapool. Book with Alan Abernethy, 1 Newton Ave. Wick, 01955-602702.

18 May, Sunday, Botany in Strath Latheron-Nature walk with Broch and stone circle, led by Gordon and Myra Wilson. Leave both Wick and Thurso at 9.30am, meeting at Latheron harbour about 10am

15 June, Sunday, Boat/bus trip to Hoy costing about £25. The weather stopped us last year. Gordon Wilson and Jack Barnaby will lead us on this rough cliff walk to the Old Man, Ratwick Bay, the Dwarfie Stane, and the Lyness Museum. Early booking required- Marion Owen, 01847-892999, who will know the details.

25 June, Wednesday, Evening walk, starting at Lybster Harbour at 7.30pm, led by Jack Barnaby.
6 July, Sunday, A heather clamber to Ben Griam Beg hill fort, led by Calum MacKenzie/Alan Abernethy. Wick 9.30am, Thurso 10am.

27 July, Sunday, Big Burn walk at Golspie, the energetic will climb Ben Braggie, the less energetic will tramp through the estate. Gordon Wilson and Jack Barnaby will meet us at the Big Burn car park about 10.45am (turn right at the garage as you enter Golspie). Wick and Thurso 9.30am.

10 August, Sunday, Whaligoe to Bruan. Gordon Wilson will show us Warehouse, brochs, cairns and cists. Thurso 9.30am, Wick 9.45, meeting at Whaligoe car park about 10.15.

13 September, Saturday,?. See our Winter Programme for details of an Architectural outing.

21 September, Sunday. Strath Kildonan. Gordon will show us 3 brochs, 2 with ramparts, and early settlements. Thurso and Wick at 9.30am, meeting at the Helmsdale toilets about 10.30

2 Nov, Sunday, Salmon Spawning at Braemore. We saw very few fish on our visit in 1995 but Geoff Leet hopes to see shoals this year. Leave Wick and Thurso at 10am, meeting by the Braemore phone box about 10.45.
