Caithness Field Club Summer Programme 2008

Sunday 20 April – Coach Trip to the Falls of Shin, the Ferrycroft Centre and Ord Hill with coffee on the way at the Marine Hotel Brora. We buy our own lunches at Harrods or take a picnic. The coach leaves Thurso 9.30am picking up at Wick 10.00am . Cost £12. To book please phone Marion (01847 892999)

Sunday 4 May – The start of the Walking Festival – Geoff to lead a walk in the Houstry area- approximately 4 miles – seeing standing stones and other antiquities. We leave Thurso 9.30am and Wick 9.40am meeting at the old mill car park Dunbeath 10.10am

9-12 May – The Club Weekend - in Kyle this year –is fully booked.

Sunday 8 June – A sail Wick to Lybster and Lybster to Wick for 24 people seeing birds nesting on the cliffs. The party meets at Wick Harbour 1.00pm – 12 people will sail to Lybster. The remainder will leave Lybster at 3.00pm. Cars to be shared – Cost £12. Booking essential – phone Marion (01847 892999)

Sunday 15 June – Stephen Fraser of the Forestry Commission has offered a 6 mile trek along forest roads at Borgie. Leaving Wick 9.15am meeting Thurso 9.45am.

Tuesday 24 June – An evening walk with Geoff leaving Wick 6.30pm meeting Thurso 7.00pm. Cars will be parked at Geise where there is a sign - posted walk to the river. From there to one of the secret army hides, then on to Bleachfield and back to the road.

Sunday 6 July – A trip to Lochan Hakon – Geoff to lead – a lovely walk with an old castle and cup and ring marked stones. Leaving Wick 9.00pm, meeting Thurso 9.30am.

Thursday 24 July – Eleanor to lead an evening “Walk about Wick”. Leaving Thurso 6.30pm meeting with Wick members in Sommerfield car park 7.00pm.

Sunday 10 August – Ken to lead a Botanical Walk on Dunnet Head. We leave Thurso 9.20am and Wick 9.30am meeting at Dunnet Head car park.

Sunday 7 September – A walk for Archaeology month - Suisgill Burn and Learable Hill. Geoff to lead. Leaving Wick and Thurso 9.30am meeting at Kildonan railway station car park11.00am

NON –MEMBERS ARE WELCOME. WE MEET AT WICK AND THURSO RAILWAY STATIONS FOR OURWALKS . PLEASE WEAR BOOTS AND SUITABLE CLOTHING. BEWARE TICKS – TROUSERS SHOULD BE TUCKED INTO SOCKS. EVERYONE COMES AT THEIR OWN RISK AND WE REGRET – WE CANNOT ALLOW DOGS.
