THE SCULPTURED STONES OF CAITHNESS
A survey by Tim Blackie and Colin Macaulay

Reference Number: SSC/12

Name: Skinnet 2

Description: Class 3 monument

Present Location: St Thomas's Chapel,
  Skinnet, by Halkirk
  ND 1310 6205

Original Location: as above

Other Documentation: BEAT p23
  IMCC No93
Dimensions: Length 4 feet 11 inches
  Breadth 2 feet 9 inches
  Width 5 inches

Notes: This stone still stands upright about 6 feet out from the south wall of the chapel, and bears on one side the traces of an equal-armed Celtic cross, the arms convex in outline at the outer edges.  The stone is very worn, and the detail is difficult to make out, but the arms were evidently decorated with knotwork patterns.  A fine Class 2 stone also originated from this site (see entry for Reference Number SSC/9).
