Recruitment Drive
Citizen's Advice is always in the look out for people who can help to give advice.  Due to the large influx of complex queries and Advisors leaving due to gaining employment we are currently in need of advisors.  People from many different backgrounds assist us with our work.

The Commitment
One day a week from 9.30 until 3.00(ish).

Training
You are part of a team of volunteers.  Every week we would complete work books, which we work through as a team.  they ensure trainees are aware of the problems that they would face as advisors.  Once the workbooks are finished the volunteer's slip into an advising team, where they help out and observe.  they have the back up of a full-time training officer.  Once they are ready they take on their own clients.  At his stage they are shadowed by a trained advisor.  Once they are competent and confident enough they become 'badged' advisors.  If they wish they have the option to go on and complete their SVQ Advice & Information Level 3.

Back-up
Within the bureau you are able to use a complete up to date reference system, and our local information files.  For more complex issues we have the use of second-tier information from ACAS, SHAS, Sern and Citizens Advice Scotland

Working within a team helping people within the community is a very satisfying way to spend some spare time you may have.

Anyone wanting more information can contact either Citizen's Advice Bureau for an application form.

Caithness Citizen's Advice Bureau delivers free, independent advice in a confidential manner on a range of topics to the Caithness community.
Topics dealt with range through housing, employment, consumer benefits to money advice.
All our advisers are fully trained to a high standard in interview, problem solving and negotiation skills.  Some are specialists e.g. debt adviser, welfare rights officer and employment adviser.  Others are currently working towards an SVQ in advice.
Our advisers are drawn from the community at large, people who wish to put something back into the community or wish to learn a new skill in a safe environment.  We welcome enquiries from potential volunteers who can commit to at least one day a week.

We also offer money advice with a paid money advice advisor, Ian Ross.   We also offer specialist Welfare Rights Advice, again by paid staff, from filling in forms to representing at tribunals.
