Dusk, Brabster.

The deepening twilight
Swimming before the inward eye

Like a tide coming in
The rock pool of earth
Filling up, filling up
With silence.

The wave washes over
The birds,
And the house
And the grass is a
Deep sea glimmer
Far down, far down.

I turn to the dark red
Island of fire,
Content.

The Bay, Thurso

A white sun hat, a bucket and spade
The green of the fathomless light
in the sun-filled swell of the wave
a child looking out to the sea;
You cannot know,
How your hand in mine
As you lie so frail on a hospital bed,
Brings landscapes back to me.
