Newsletter 10 March 2006

Dear Parent

Newsletter – 10.03.06

My apologies for the delay in the March Newsletter, but with school closures etc it has been hectic since the beginning of the month.

Severe Weather Closure – Things seemed to go fairly smoothly during the disrupted days and I was very relieved to get the school back to normal this week. As a reminder should the weather become bad again telephone 0870 054 6999 when prompted school code is 042820

You can also check the website – www.winter.highlandschools.org.uk  but this will not be updated until about 8.10 a.m. as I have to get into school to do this.

Do not forget to tune into Moray Firth Radio as I usually contact them before I update the school help line and website and they are very helpful by putting out 15 minute bulletins.

Nursery Enrolment Week – This is the week beginning 20 March. If possible parents should call at the school between 10 am. – 12 noon on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to complete the necessary paperwork. If you are unable to come at these times please contact the school (602649) to arrange a time which is suitable. In addition we are holding an Open Afternoon on Wednesday 15 March from 1-3 p.m. when we would welcome parents and their children to visit in an informal way and have a chance to meet the staff over tea and cakes.

Science Festival Mon 20-Wed 22 March – I am delighted that children in P1-4 will have the opportunity to be entertained by Mr Boom in the North School while children in P5-7 will experience 3 activities here in Pulteneytown Academy. These are Fun Maths, Earth Sciences and Body and Bones.
As advertised in today’s John O’Groat Journal, on Tues 21 Mar from 7-9 p.m. Mr Boom’s Polyhedral Workshop and the Body and Bone Show will be on in Pulteneytown Academy so that if adults would like to come along and see these they are most welcome and, in fact, children may wish to come and see them a second time. Entrance is free but it is recommended that you call 01955602777 to secure a seat in case it is very busy.

On Wed 22 Mar from 6.45-8.45 p.m. the Private Function Room in Mackay’s Hotel will be hosting Earth Sciences and Fun Maths and again adults and children are welcome, book as above.

Toilets – The unsafe tiles in the senior boys and girls toilets have now been removed and discussions are underway as to refurbishment. I will keep you informed, but in the meantime it is absolutely essential that children wear gym shoes or trainers of some kind when in these toilets as it is totally unsuitable to walk on these floors in their socks. I hope to have news about what is happening in the very near future.

Swimming – So many children keep forgetting their swimming kit that there is a queue at the office every Friday morning. As the children involved are all in P5-7 they really should be able to remember their swimming kit each week. To aid their memory I will be charging 5p for every landline call and 20p for any mobile call required to ask their parent to bring their swimming kit to school. If parents are untraceable then a 20p charge will be made for the laundering of towel and costume borrowed from school. Parents should please remember any child not going swimming requires a note with them each time.

Bunny Drive – The PSA are holding a Bunny Drive on Tuesday 28 March starting at 7 p.m. A charge of £1 for playing which includes tea, coffee or juice will be payable at the door which will open no earlier than 6.45 p.m. Home baking will be available on sale to have along with your free drink! The PSA would be delighted if parents could provide some home baking for this fundraising venture (PSA members are reminded that a meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Mon 20 Mar to plan the Bunny Drive).

Staff Change – Miss Falconer will be on maternity leave from Fri 24 Mar and Mrs L Harper will be returning from maternity leave and taking over this class from Mon 27 Mar.

School will close for the Easter Break at 3.10 p.m. on Fri 31 March and reopens for pupils on Wed 19 April.

Yours sincerely

LILIAN M WARK
