Highland Dyslexia Association |
Services Available The Highland Dyslexia association (HDA) is managed by families and supporters of children, young people and adults with the Specific Learning Difficulty of Dyslexia. Dyslexia is thought to be primarily due to processing difficulties involving the eye, ear and brain. People are affected in a wide variety of ways and it affects to some extent one in ten of the population, more usually males. In addition to the provision of day-to-day support and information, the HDA arranges: - Low cost tuition - individuals are taught by accredited teachers using computers and resources supplied by the HDA. - Support evenings - on the last Monday of each month youngsters, adults and their families have the opportunity to discuss concerns and to borrow resources. - Advice - the HDA offers advice to those seeking access to specialist help. |
| Highland Dyslexia Association Launched a
new project - The Spire (Specific Information & Resources for Education) Project was launched on 15th November 1999 as a partnership between Highland Council Education Service and Highland Dyslexia Association (HDA) to provide a service to parents of children with Specific Learning Difficulties. SPIRE aims to provide parents with clear and objective advice and a range of information surrounding the Special Education Needs Assessment and Record of Needs Process, including legislation, Scottish Office Guidance and Highland Council Procedures. The service is both a - telephone helpline 01463 717315 - A Drop in Advice Centre based at - HDA 36/38 Tomnahurich Street Inverness IV3 5DS SPIRE Resource materials will be available throughout the Highlands via a new HDA Mobile Resource Unit, donated by Highland Cross Charity Appeal. This unit is travelling all over the Highlands until May 2000. |
