Headway Highland – Head Injuries
Headway highland is one of a number of groups set up country wide to help people who have suffered a head injury, also their carers and relatives.

We aim to promote understanding of all aspects of head injury, provide information and support for the head injured and their families.

Highland Headway has access to information covering benefits, legal assistance, education and training, employment after injury, counselling. Leisure activities and all medical services that are appropriate to the head injured, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology and social workers.

Survivors of serious head injury are growing in numbers due to advances in medical practices and greater safety measures now being built into modern vehicles.

If your relative is the victim of an accident start gathering information from witnesses, circumstances of the accident etc.

If appropriate consult a solicitor, Headway can help here with a list of specialised solicitors.

Once a patient is well enough to leave hospital the rehabilitation role falls onto the family. This can be very demanding and you will need all the help you can get. If you are offered help by other relatives and friends accept it, share your worries and problems.

The head injured will suffer from various problems both emotional and physical, which will hinder their struggle to return to some semblance of normality. Some people make quite remarkable recoveries but remember it can be a very long-term thing, perhaps years and be a very frustrating time.

This article has been produced by Headway Highland to try to help all concerned in making life a little easier. We want you to know that there are like-minded people who have suffered a head injury, carers who look after head injured persons and know the consequences of such an injury.
