Due to the overwhelming response and goodwill of the local community, HomeAid have successfully reached their yearly tonnage target in respect of The Strategic Waste Funding. The funding has given HomeAid the opportunity to appoint three new members of staff on a part time basis. Ian Murray, Margaret Mackay and David Spoors all from Caithness, have been appointed and are now playing an active role in HomeAid’s operation.

With the recent acquisition of a new vehicle funded by INCREASE, HomeAid can now offer a quicker FREE collection service to the local community. Waiting time for the delivery of items to low income individuals and families is now down to five days and with the removal of the £10 delivery charge, HomeAid are confident that this will encourage and help those in greater need to come forward who currently cannot afford the £10.

Billy Dunbar of Corrie Plumbing & Heating Ltd came to HomeAid’s rescue recently when he generously donated a storage unit free of charge for a period of three months. This has given HomeAid vital time to find a permanent solution to the overflow of stock at their warehouse.

HomeAid continue to support people vigorously throughout the county who are on a low income and although they have a large stock of furniture they are in urgent need of electric cookers and vacuum cleaners. Please give HomeAid a call on 01847 890696 for a free collection if you have any furniture or household items in good condition to donate.

With the continuing support of the local community, HomeAid are progressing steadily towards sustainability. The Annual General Meeting will take place on June 5th at which time HomeAid would like to hear from people who would be willing to act as volunteer Directors. If you are interested and would like to be a part of a successful local community enterprise please telephone HomeAid for further details.

John Thurso MP Officially Opened Homeaid Centre

Homeaid the charity serving Caithness and Sutherland by recycling furniture and household goods had its centre officially opened by John Thurso MP who praised the organisation for its success in preventing so much going to landfill and providing a source of furniture and other goods for people on low incomes.  A number of councillors had also turned out with Caithness Convenor David Flear helping John Thurso try out the stocks ready for fund raising at the county show in July.
