Staff Set Out To Improve Facilities
The staff of the Newton Wing, town & County Hospital are pushing forward with a project to raise funds to enhance the Palliative Care Facility.  they aim to raise enough money to build an extension to the current Palliative Care Rooms that will give patients and their families the ability to be together at what is often a difficult time. in a homely and private environment.

It is hoped that the Macmillan Cancer Cancer Palliative Care will provide funding for the building.  the staff are trying to raise the money for the Newton Palliative Care Fund for refurbishment, comfort items for patients, complimentary therapies and to provide ongoing staff training and education.

the beds provide a good service to the local community.  Contributions towards the auction and a Christmas raffle are now being collected.  Any ideas for further fund raising would be welcome.

NEW PALLIATIVE CARE CLINIC
We are pleased to announce the establishment of a new palliative care clinic. This will be held in the Macmillan Oncology suite once a month, commencing on Friday 24th September 2004. Referrals should be by letter to one of the Consultants. The purpose of this clinic is to see patients with cancer or other advanced diseases, who have palliative care needs which can most appropriately be assessed on an out-patient basis. We will monitor the function of the clinic closely over the first year. The current in-patient service will continue as before and occasional urgent out-patient referrals can be accommodated on an ad-hoc basis.
