Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland
Single Transferable Vote - Proportional Representation

Draft Multi Member Wards for The Highland Council

The Council has received for comment draft multi member wards for Council elections in 2007.  This comprises 23 new multi member wards of three or four members.  The table below lists the proposed new wards in numerical order and gives some information of the expected electorate in 2009.  Each ward seeks to find natural communities with the actual number of electors deviating slightly from parity.  The figures below indicate the deviation from parity as a percentage figure.  Added to the information from the Boundary Commission is a column which seeks identify the main communities which fall within the new wards.  Below this table some maps are provided which should help you identify the new proposed wards.

The Council will be considering its response to the Boundary Commission at the end of April.  Thereafter, the Boundary Commission will finalise its proposals and put these out to public consultation during the summer of 2005.
