CADETS TRAVEL 1000 MILES FOR ADVENTURE   Photo Gallery
Eleven cadets and 3 members of staff from the Thurso Squadron travelled over 1000 miles to attend an Adventure Training Camp in Staffordshire.  The green camp was held at the Anzio Army Training Base in Leek and was organised by the 1406 (SPALDING) Sqn.

A day exercise involved the cadets learning about camouflage, concealment and stealth.  They then had to put that into practice in an escape and evasion exercise.

Abseiling and rock climbing was provided by Army Physical Training Instructors and the cadets rose to the challenge with all Thurso cadets completing the exercises.

During the course of the week cadets trained on and fired, both the Number 8 cadet rifle and the L98 rifle.  Warrant Officer Macintosh said “the difference in the cadets’ marksmanship over the course of the week was incredible.  Cadets Ross Venters, Keith Whitelaw, Terri Mackenzie and Andrew Mackay all gained their ATC Marksman badge.

All the cadets attempted a demanding confidence course which entailed crawling under barbed wires, climbing over walls, crossing stagnant pools using rope swings and climbing over rope walls.

The final day was spent enjoying the thrills and spills of Alton Towers.  On return to Thurso Cadet Keith Whitelaw said “fantastic, that’s the only word there is to describe it”.
