Army Cadets On Fieldcraft Weekend At Broubster
Caithness
Army Cadet Force held a fieldcraft exercise weekend at Broubster Forest
near Reay as the culmination of the Company's training before annual camp.
Activities included living in the field, camouflage, observation, tactical
movement and patrolling. The cadets had an enjoyable, sunny and extremly
wet time; but the skills learnt and equipment issued kept them warm and
dry most of the time. This years camp will be at Strensall In Yorkshire
from 1st to 14th July.
Anyone interested in joining the Army Cadet Force from the age of 12
should go along to the Army Cadet hall in Thurso on Tuesday nights, and
Wick and Castletown on Wednesday nights. All start at 7.00pm.

Map Reading Weekend
The
army Cadets carried out a map reading weekend on the 14th and 15th
January. All the Cadets worked hard, and found some of the problems not
only of navigating, but also simply moving, at night. Daytime navigation
skills were also tested and all the cadets came away having learned and
passed something. The picture shows Cdt JJ Munro, LCpl Gregor Maclean and
LCpl Niall Hornidge working out bearings and grid references for the
outdoor navigation exercise.

Field Exercise and Camp At Rumster Forest
The
spring is always a busy time for the Army Cadets. During the run up to
their summer camp they take part in events as varied as shooting matches,
sports meetings, D of E expeditions and cadet skills competitions.
This weekend they have just completed company camping and a fieldcraft
exercise at Rumster Forest. Thirty seven cadets and nine adults took part.
Activity was split into three grades by age and experience. The fair
weather helped make it a success.

Cadets section in Caithness. News photos and information will be
added here from time to time. If you were in the Army Cadets in
former years and have some old photos why not send them in and we will set
up a Earlier Days section for you to browse and remember and share with
old friends.

large towns to small villages.
8000
volunteer instructors assist over 50,000 cadets.
The Army Cadet Force is not
part of the Army but it does use the uniforms, traditions and badges of
rank of the Regular and Territorial Army sponsors. All adults in the
ACF are youth workers. There's no danger of military "call up".
