About The Band

The band currently has 20 members are from all over Caithness.

The band hope to take part in the massed pipe band fest which will be held in Edinburgh on 21st August 2005. The band are currently raising funds to enable the trip and are holding a ceilidh dance in the British Legion in Thurso on  Saturday 7th May 2005.

The band are holding a raffle to be drawn on 30th July and have have been fortunate enough to secure some really great prizes like 2 night family stay in Inverness and free trial flight in Wick plus lots of family passes and vouchers to different centres ie Landmark, Aqua Dome, Quad Biking and many more.

The band have several new young members who would like to join us on the trip and musically will be ready to do so but we need to kit them out. The band would appreciate any local sponsorship from either companies or individuals.

The band play locally throughout the year at various functions and will be attending the Mey Games again this year to pipe for Prince Charles and Camilla.  This has become an annual booking and the children are always pleased to be invited back.

UKAEA Helps Dress Caithness Junior Pipe Band
For Pipefest
The members of Caithness Junior Pipe Band are very grateful to UKAEA Dounreay for supplementing their uniform with fleece jackets. Since its formation in 2002, the band is appearing more often in public events and the provision of a suitable uniform is essential especially in the winter months and cool summer evenings. The band relies heavily on fundraising to buy uniforms and equipment. The highlight for the band in 2005 is playing in Pipefest in Edinburgh on Sunday 21st August. This is a very special event for which it is hoped that 20,000 pipers and drummers will be marching through The Royal Park at Holyrood. To mark this occasion we have decided to purchase dress jackets for the band so that they will look their best for the cameras. We will all be working hard until then raising funds through raffles, dances and playing at public events. We hope that the public will come and see us play throughout the year and give us your support. Caithness Junior Pipe Band are pictured here wearing their new fleece jackets with Garry Baxter of UKAEA prior to playing to guests of the cruise liner Van Goghat Scrabster Pier last week.
