Eye On Maternity Services
Release 20 September 2000
COMMITMENT TO FULL CONSULTATION ON MATERNITY SERVICES
Caroline Thomson, Chairman of Highland Health Board responded today to concerns that were being expressed in Caithness & Sutherland regarding the Maternity Services Review. She said:
"The people in Caithness & Sutherland have my personal guarantee that they will be fully consulted before any decisions are made regarding Maternity Services in their area. What we are seeking to do is to develop a Highland-wide review of Maternity Services. We are not isolating any one part of the region and we have made no pre-conceived judgements on the future design of the services."
"I am concerned that there is a perception from some people that decisions have already been made on the outcomes of the review but I can assure everyone concerned, and in particular the elected members of the area, that this is not the case. The review will be transparent and participative and the outcomes will be based on best clinical practice."
