Town & Count Club Annual Bowling Competition
Report by Liz Manson. - Donald Manson Snr took the photos.

The Billy Bain annual Triples Competition was held in the Town and County Club in Wick on Saturday and Sunday 5th and 6th April. All profits from the event goes to a local charity, and this year's charity was the
Macmillan Cancer Nurses. It is an open competition to any bowler, skips are nominated and all other entries are put in a draw, the only rule of the draw is that no team can consist of more that 2 bowlers from the same club.

This allows bowlers from all clubs to come along, have a fun day out and play with different team members. This year there was a total of 84 players making 28 teams.

The competition was sponsored by the UKAEA who donated the prizes to the winners. The semi finals were played on the Sunday evening with the semi finalists from Saturday - Donald Manson (Town & County Club), Maria Munro (Francis Street Club) and Andrew Manson (TCC) playing against John Malcolm (FSC), Murdo Farquhar (Lyth) and Graham Pullen (FSC) and Sundays' semi-finalists Paul McNeil (TCC), Margaret Manson (TCC) and Janet MacDonald (Wick Indoor Bowling Club) play against David Johns (Wick Dounreay Club), Cathy Mackay (FSC) and Sadie Farmer (FSC).

The final saw Donald, Maria and Andrew overcome Paul, Margaret and Janet, in an exciting final watched by a large crowd of spectators staying on to support the players.

A total of £613 was raised over the weekend and the cheque was presented to Isobel Nicolson representing the Macmillan Cancer Nurses from Margaret Bain the widow of the late Billy Bain. The trophies were presented by Arthur Gunn on behalf of the sponsors UKAEA.
