RATES RELIEF ON OFFER TO COMMUNITIES DEPENDENT ON
WHITEFISH CATCHES
Harbours and associated businesses which are experiencing hardship as a result of the reduction in whitefish catches are being encouraged to apply for rates relief. Application forms for remission of rates are available from one of The Highland Council’s network of 36 Service Points or from the Council’s web site: www.highland.gov.uk via What’s New. Harbours in Highland which rely on whitefish catches are Kinlochbervie, Lochinver, Mallaig, Ullapool and Wick. The new measures introduced by the Scottish Executive offer rates relief of up to 100% to harbours and affected businesses dependent on whitefish catches. The Executive will meet 95% of the relief and the Council the remainder. The relevant Harbours will qualify irrespective of rateable value and affected businesses with a rateable value not exceeding £50,000 may also qualify. The rates relief scheme will run for six months from 1 April this year. |
