Ancient Clan gather on SKYE

One of Scotland’s oldest Clans gather on Skye at the end of the month for a weekend of ceilidhs, talks and visits. MacInneses claim to be one of the four original Clan names in western Scotland and are said to have persuaded Somerled to bring together the various forces against the Vikings and thus found Clan Donald and the Lordship of the Isles.

MacInneses are associated with Morvern but there are strongholds in Sleat on the Isle of Skye and in the Uists. They have had no chief for over 700 hundred years and there are no plans to fill the gap. However an active MacInnes Association is growing around the World with many well-known MacInneses in public life.

The MacInneses will gather in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic College, in south Skye, over the weekend of Friday 29 August 2003. They will eat good food, and visit places of interest including the Archives at the Clan Donald Centre and the cleared village of Leitirfura, once inhabited by MacInneses. In the evenings are talks, a ceilidh and a dance with Fergie Macdonald.

All MacInneses, friends and acquaintances are invited to the whole weekend or just the evening events. Contact Donald MacInnes on 01236 615817 for more details.
