Castletown Junior Football Club Head For Presigious Tournament
A group of under tens from Castletown will be heading south this weekend to compete in the Loch Lomond Youth Soccer Festival in Glasgow. The prestigious tournament, which is held at the West of Scotland Science Park, Garscube, is sanctioned by the SFA and FIFA, and attracts team from as far away as the USA.

The tournament is in it’s third year, and has expanded this year to include more age groups. The competition previously only featured under 12 and under 14 age groups, which, incidentally, were both won by Celtic Boys Club las year, but this year will include under 9, under 10 and under 13’s as well as the 12’s and 14’s. There is also a girls tournament this year at under 13 and under 15 ages. This expansion has meant a new venue as well, and this year the magnificent sports complex at Garscube has been chosen. As well as six full size grass pitches, there is a floodlit training area, two Astroturf pitches. 3 floodlit tennis courts, 2 squashcourts and a cricket oval. It also has many indoor facilities including gym and exercise suites. The Wolston Halls of Residence are on the site as well, and the boys will be staying there for the weekend.

The Castletown side, which is missing a few key players due to the holiday season, will contain a mix of under 9 and under 10 players, so will be up against it in their matches, which see them take on Clyde Boys Club, Burley Juniors from Leeds, Sporting Yoker, Dunoon YFL, Barrhead Boys Club, Giffnock Utd and Kilpatrick FC. However they are looking forward to the experience, and some of the players will be hoping top catch the eye of any scouts in the area.

The boys will be travelling down on Friday morning on the Caithness Sports Council minibus, and will return late on Sunday night. During the stay they are having a tour of Hampden and the SFA museum.
