A John O'Groats woman is starting a new business which she hopes will add that special touch to a bride's big day.

Through her business - Tickety Boo Bridal Wear - Anne Baker will design and create bridal wear customised to the exact wishes of the bride to be.  She also plans to make dresses for other special occasions, such as high school 'prom' nights.

Anne said: "I am excited about this venture and recently made the Castletown Gala Queen and her attendant's dresses.  I have over 30 bridal dresses available in a wide range of sizes and styles, along with a variety of fabrics including silk, satin, shot chiffon, in a variety of colours.  I am expanding my fabric choice every month with the support I receive from Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE).

"My personal service is also available, so if anyone has a specific design in mind or even just a vague idea of an outfit, be it bridal, mother of the bride, bridesmaid, prom, party or just something special, we can design someone's dream together.  Tickety Boo can do it for you!"

Business start-up assistance from CASE, which included a funding package totalling £3,600, helped Anne get her venture off the ground.  This form of CASE assistance is designed to help new businesses by providing valuable business advice and a regular income for the first twelve months of trading, usually the most difficult time for fledgling businesses.

According to Ian Thomson, development manager with CASE: "Anne has identified a niche market here, as currently many brides have to travel south in search of their ideal dress.  As there may then be further trips for fittings, etc the additional expense can be quite considerable.  Having such a service available locally will, I'm sure, be popular with a lot of people."
