Mark Jackson and Chris Copple, two flying instructors from Manchester set a new record on Tuesday by flying from John O'Groats to Lands End and back again in the same day, the first to achieve such a journey by Microlight.

The duo departed from Wick just before dawn on Tuesday morning and headed north to John O'Groats and then turned south to take them to Lands End, Mark was flying a flexwing "Quik" and Chris was in a 3 Axis "Ikarus" both planes fall into the ultra lightweight Microlight category, an ever increasingly popular way to fly.

The journey took them across Scotland, England and Wales and covered some 1100 miles, they arrived back at Wick airport via John O'Groats just after 8pm after nearly 16 hours flying and only time spent on the ground was for fuel.
