WHEELS AND HOOVES CHALLENGE
The beautiful weather attracted a great crowd to the 'Wheels and Hooves Challenge' at Rumster Forest last weekend.

Almost 80 horse riders, cyclists, runners and walkers took part in the joint event organised by the Highland Council Countryside Rangers and Forestry Commission Scotland.

Participants were invited to the 'Enchanted Forest' to find clues hidden around the trails and discover magical properties of plants along the way. Afterwards, energy levels were re-boosted with a sizzling barbecue of tasty venison and vegetarian burgers.

Stephen Fraser, North Beat Forester and event organiser said: "I am delighted to see such a wide range of users enjoying the Forest on a day when there were so many other things on in and around the County. The sunshine and the smiles at the ranger-led orienteering events and at the barbecue picnic site made it an enjoyable day not to be missed."

Marina Swanson, the East Caithness Ranger and event organiser said: "Saturday turned out to be a very successful day. It was wonderful to see the different users having fun together and taking responsible access into the countryside. We look forward to working in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland on other future events and tasting more delicious venison burgers."
