Caithness Area Convenor David Flear welcomed the commissioners , officers and other Salvation Army members to a reception in the Pentland Hotel, Thurso on Saturday 16 October 2004.   Mr Flear said he was particularly pleased to welcome the commissioners in that he had personally over the years had cause to thank the salvation army for help when he worked a Social Work manager.

Commissioner Shaw Clifton presented the convenor with a plaque a memento of the visit to Caithness which David Flear accepted for hanging in the convenors office.

Commissioner Shaw Clifton and his wife Commissioner Helen Clifton joined the Salvation Army in 1973 and have served on five continents.

The group shown in the photo and other councillors and Salvationists spent a pleasant hour over a cup of tea.
