Tracer is the Lifelong Electronic Identification Scheme now operating in the UK for cats and dogs.  A tiny microchip in put under looses skin by your local vet.  The scheme is operated by the Kennel Club jointly with RSPCA and SSPCA providing secure proof of identity.  Should the animal stray and be picked up by local authorities their TRACER Animal Code scanner will read the code number.  The national database runs 24 hours a day 365 days and can identify the animal and supply its owners name and address.  Pets can be returned in the shortest possible time.  Ask your local vet about the system.
