Update JUNE 2007 by Tricia Barnett
A Sutherland Family from Watten Parish, Caithness  - descended from William  Sutherland  (b abt 1685 - ) of Catchery in Watten Parish, Caithness, Scotland,
It is with deep sadness that I have to advise of the death of William (Bill) Murray Sutherland on 28 May 2007.   Bill was the person who started this website  http://www3.telus.net/kamuwija/default.htm and he  aimed to update it regularly with his last update being this May.  He had a great passion for working on the Family Tree and felt a real kinship for all of the people included in it - he was proud to call them his family.
William b 1685 had a son William b1716  who married Janet Murray. They had 12 known children - 3 of whom we follow on the website below
Peter Sutherland (b 1761 Watten - d 1823 Clyde River, NS, Canada) Courtesy of W M (Bill) Sutherland deceased 2007
and
Mary Sutherland (b 1750 Watten - d Caithness) Courtesy of Tricia Barnett(nee More) and Andrew Cormack
And
Josiah Sutherland (b 1759 Watten )

Contact email addresses included in Sutherland Website:
http://www3.telus.net/kamuwija/default.htm
It is hoped to continue to update this regularly.   If you should have any > marriages, births, deaths, links, etc., to report, kindly please advise me at tricia.barnett@btinternet.com  and I will happily ensure they are recorded in the next update.
Currently I am checking out possible connections to other children of William and Janet.
One such query :
Was  Ann Sutherland who married  Francis Bremner the same Ann b 1757 to William and Janet?
Updated 1 May 2005

All were born in Watten Parish. Peter Sutherland died in Clyde River, NS, Canada.  Contact addresses included in Website: http://www3.telus.net/kamuwija/default.htm

New England & Wales 1901 Census Web Site
For England & Wales this will be one of the big sites this year.  Whereas previously a trip to London was required or paying someone to carryout research you can now get all of the 1901 census online.   Started 2 January 2002 and you may have guessed its already crashed due to heavy demand.
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Charlie Chaplin are among the 32.5 million Edwardians whose names, addresses, employment and state of mental health are recorded in the survey.

From Caithness.org Message Board
You may be interested in the site http://www.old-maps.co.uk, you put in a present day post code and it produces a 19th century map of where the post code now is. (To find the post code go to http://www.royalmail.co.uk .) The post code for Rockhill Farm is KW1 5TP, if you enter that on the old maps site you will see a map of the area in 1877 which has Rockhill farm marked and you can zoom in on it. I expect the post code for the nursing home would give a 19th century map of the hotel.
