Roddy Mackay says, "This is my Great Grandad
George Manson (second left) on the steam drifter "Brae Flett" in Wick
Harbour around 1925. The boat would have fished for herring.
It was owned by the Flett family. The two ladies may have been the
captain and engineer's wives. This is an important picture because
it shows how big a crew worked on a steam drifter. It also shows how
busy the harbour was. Boats came to Wick from all over Scotland.
The two in the background are from Buckie. It is also interesting to
see the clothes the fishermen wore - they all have leather boots. |
