Related Photos From Caithness Folk
A
number of folk in Caithness work in the oil industry. This is not seen
except for the rigs from the Beatrice Field off the Caithness coast but
there are folk on many rigs and in other parts of the world where
Caithness folk have worked or are based. If any Caithness folk would
like to send photos with with a few details for inclusion in the galleries
send them to bill@caithness.org

Keeping Beatrice Alive
The Beatrice platform lies 24 km off the
Helmsdale coastline and feeds oil into the Nigg
terminal at Cromarty Firth via a sub-sea
pipeline. Production has declined from 7,500 bbls/d in 1998 to around
5,000 bbls/d in 2000. The Beatrice Field is the closest
inshore oil field in the UK. It has been operating since 1976 and three
platforms extract oil from over 2,000 metres below the firth's seabed! The
crude oil is carried by an 81 kilometre pipeline to the Nigg oil terminal
in the Cromarty Firth for processing and tankers export it around the
world. Caithness derives no direct benefit from this oil off its
coast.

Life After The Oil Crash
Lots of information, theories and links connected to a predicted worldwide
shortage of oil in the next few years. Extremely thought provoking
and maybe you should be cutting down your dependence on oil now,
insulating the loft and installing a wood stove - depending on how much
faith you have in continued production.
Die Off
Prepare for doom. Scary stuff on oil depletion. If you want to
remain ignorant then do not go here.
