North Highland Tourism Operators Group

20 April 05
Meeting Of New Group At Dunrobin Castle
"The North Highland Tourism Operators Group held a successful meeting at Dunrobin Castle on Tuesday 12 April 2005 which followed on from the inaugural conference held in Mackay's Hotel, Wick at the end of January this year. Over 90 delegates attended the meeting which was opened by John Thurso who supported the need for a strong voice from the North Highlands representing tourism operators following on from the re-organisation of HOST and VisitScotland.

He encouraged the continuation of those in the tourism trade to work together to continue to raise the awareness of the North Highlands as a destination to enjoy the benefits that are on offer in this unique part of the country.

The meeting was briefed by members of the Steering Group on progress being made on a number of issues, including marketing, web site, future organisational proposals and communications with the agencies. On this latter point, Robert Powell, Chairman of the Steering Group, confirmed that it would be imperative for the Group to establish and maintain very good working relationships with all agencies who could assist with tourism in the area.

Commenting on the membership of the Group, Robert Gray, the Project Co-ordinator, said that he was very encouraged by the response of the Tourism Operators in the area. In only a little over two months, 110 business had joined the Group from all types of accommodation providers together with many tourism attraction businesses.

Of particular note is the spread of membership throughout all of Sutherland and Caithness, which is beginning to truly reflect the business in the North Highlands.
