The Shearer Gathering
19 - 21 August 2005
August 2005 sees the gathering in Canisbay of descendants of two Shearer brothers – John and James. This international affair brings together Shearers from five nations. The weekends events will celebrate the Shearer family’s history, including their love of music. There will be 180 attendees, spanning four generations, with 44 travelling from abroad. The main events will be a formal dinner on Friday night in the New Weigh Inn, Thurso, and a Ceilidh & Supper in Canisbay Hall on Saturday evening. With several keen genealogists in the family, there will be a sharing of information, and photographs on display.
It has taken eighteen months to organise the event and has been a real team effort. A copy of the full programme can be downloaded from this site.
