Wings Over Wick

Women At War

Mrs Frances Smith, Darlington, Co. Durham
I was stationed at Wick for 3 years, my husband was there for 4 and we lived in Alexandra Place after my son (who is a Padre in the RAF) was born in Henderson Memorial Nursing Home.

I was a Corporal in the Equipment Section and worked alongside Hamish Webster (who owned a shop in Wick), whom we corresponded with for many years until his death.

I served in Wick from 1941-44.  I remember I spent one Boxing Day at Noss Lighthouse. We had to walk through a blizzard to get there!  I also went out overnight on a trawler from Wick Harbour.
