Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Neil Gray has issued a statement identifying racism as a significant public health challenge, and a key cause of health inequalities. Echoing the First Minister and other Scottish Government ministers' comments on racism in the wake of recent violence in other parts of the United Kingdom, the Health Secretary has outlined various measures, including asking health boards to develop and deliver their own anti-racism plans.

UK To Extend Training Programme For Ukrainian Armed Forces Personnel Throughout 2025

The UK has trained more than 45,000 Ukrainian recruits since Putin began his illegal full-scale invasion in 2022. Safe Access To Abortion Services - New protected zones come into force on 24 September

From 24 September 2024 it will be an offence to intentionally or recklessly influence, harass or prevent anyone from accessing or providing abortion services in protected zones around certain hospitals and clinics. The Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) (Scotland) Act 2024 comes into force and creates protected zones of 200 metres around all premises providing abortion services.

Legislation to create a carbon budget approach to setting climate targets has been published. The Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets) (Scotland) Bill seeks to amend the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009, in response to the Climate Change Committee's (CCC) advice that Scotland's interim emissions reduction target for 2030 was beyond what could be achieved.

Review Of Creative Scotland By Scottish Government - Sudden Reversal Of Cuts Policy

Culture Secretary Angus Robertson has announced a review of Creative Scotland to ensure its operations and structure are optimal to the needs of the culture sector, as part of this year's Programme for Government. The review, which will be the first since the public body’s establishment in 2010, will examine Creative Scotland’s remit and functions as a funding body, and how the overall impact of planned increases in levels of public funding can be maximised to support sustainability in the sector and in participation in the arts.

Arms Company Drops Plan To Test Bombs Dropped By Drones In The Flow Country

A British arms company has abandoned plans to detonate fragmentation bombs in the middle of the Flow Country world heritage site, the Guardian can reveal. The company, Overwatch, asked the Civil Aviation Authority this month for permission to carry out "live fire testing" of anti-personnel bombs dropped by drones on to land owned by the Liberal Democrat peer John Thurso.

Creative Scotland has taken the difficult decision to close the Open Fund for Individuals to new applications due to the Scottish Government being unable to confirm release of £6.6m in Grant-in-Aid budget in the current financial year, 2024-25. Uk Shared Prosperity Fund Delivery Plan Progress Update

At the meeting of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee of Highland Council on Thursday 22 August 2024, members had the opportunity to consider the progress being made across the range of interventions under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund priorities of Communities and Places, Supporting Local Business and People and Skills. The Council successfully secured £1,46m for 2022/23 and £2,46m for 2023/24 and £5,53m for 2024/25 which is a mix of revenue and capital funds.

50 Plus Jobs Supported By HIE In Caithness And Sutherland In 2023/24

As a result of HIE's support, businesses in the area are set to see combined turnover rise by £22.4m, while international sales will grow by £661,000. Figures compiled by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) show that businesses and communities supported by the agency in Caithness and Sutherland during last financial year are set to create or retain more than 50 jobs.
