    Dunbeath Post Office

An example of a business that has served the community for many years but which are now closing down all over the Highlands faced with competition from supermarkets in larger towns as everyone uses their car to pick up supplies and essentials once coming from these small shops.  Payments of all sorts straight into bank accounts has also further depleted the turnover of these small but often vital businesses.  Several small sub post offices have closed or reduced their opening hours in recent years.  The pressure on the community means life gets more difficult.  Where do you cash your pension, government family allowance and other benefits.  If not in the local post office then it must be in the bigger town forcing extra travelling expenses on people with already very low incomes.
