Caithness Waybaggers Walk Reports
Caithness Waybaggers – April Walk
Ben Griam Mor from Garvault
Fourteen of us set off from Garvault to climb Ben Griam Mor (590m). It was a fine morning although the top of Ben Griam Mor could not be seen for low cloud. As we made our ascent the cloud lifted and we could then see what we were heading for.
Ten-year-old Zoe was first to reach the summit. We had our lunch in the shelter of the cairn at the top. The views were great. Ben Griam Beg looked superb. On one side we looked down and could see Loch-nan Clar and Loch Badanloch. On the other we looked down and saw Loch Coire nam Mang and Loch Druim a’ Chliabhain where we made our descent down to. On the way down we came across some patches of snow on the hillside.
along the edge of Loch Druim a’ Chliabhain to the first small
boathouse. By this time the weather was beautiful. It could have
been a hot day in July. We walked across the narrow stretch of
land separating the two lochs. Skirting around Loch Coire nam
Mang before finally walking back up the track to the cars.
We all then headed to the Garvault Hotel for a much appreciated refreshing drink.
