Stats On Caithness.org
We have not updated this page for along time and mainly its is because we were too busy on other sections of the site and Bill was involved in many other things.  The position is that Caithness.org has continued to grow year on year. We now look more closely at advertising stats than on page views and hits. We have very accurate stats for the ads.  the olderpages on the site do not carry ads but as we have moved on the numbers of ads shown grow related to the increasing traffic on the site. At February 2013 the sites connected to Caithness.org are showing in excesss of 3 million ads per month showing that banner ads still have a place in making a business known.
As the banner ads are targeted to the users of the site by Google the costs can be controlled and gain maximum effect.  If a business wants banners on our site then they should check out www.google.com/adwords where everything is there to get banner ads targetted to geographic areas or particular customer bases.

Caithness.org Stats Heading For The Stratosphere
As Caithness.org has expanded  in all directions we rarely have time to bother counting the stats up.  But Sunday 28th June saw a phenomenal rise as visitors browsed the Wick Harbourfest, Canisbay Show and Lybster Gala photos.
The stats for one day 28th June 2009 exceeded our whole year for 2002.

The annual trend on Caithness.org is for July and August to be the really big months for traffic flows so it will be interesting to watch as more gala photos flow on to the site.  Interesting facts on the stats are that the Forum/Message Boards now have over 2 million visitors a year viewing almost 29 million pages.  The Arts section had over 6 million page views and the Business Index had over 12 million page views.  The What's On section had almost 14 million page views.
So whether its advertising in the What's On Selling items, cars etc or getting your business noticed Caithness.org is the place to be.

2 July 2007  - Busiest Day Ever On Caithness.org
Monday saw the records tumble once again on Caithness.org as the hit rate soared to new heights easily breaking the one million barrier only done for the first time last year.  Yesterday the stats were -
Hits 1,203,564  Pages 446,242  Visitors 44,037
Already it looks likely that July will maintain its seasonal position as the busiest month of the year on the web site.  June saw records broken but with only two days gone July is soaring.  This is mainly due to all the local events photos that have been posted in the past few days.  However other sections such as Arts and, What's On, Forum and business have all seen rises in traffic.

We stopped posting the numbers last year as you were all probably bored at the seemingly endless rise in the stats. They have continued to rise and June 2007 has seen the biggest numbers yet as visitor numbers broke through the one million barrier for one month.

Galas, Shows and Games Take Caithness.org To New Heights In July
Events throughout July made the web site busier than ever. In fact traffic has been so high for the past few months that we have broken our bandwidth limits with the company that hosts our web sites.  Architec has now generously offered to double our monthly bandwidth limit to 100 Gigabytes per month.

Caithness.org Breaks One Million Hits Per Day Barrier As Wick Gala Traffic Surges
The web site traffic surged to new heights over the past two days taking the site to the biggest daily totals ever.  Both of the past two days have broken through the one million hits per day total.  The numbers for the past two days are -
Sunday 23 July - Hits 1,053,981 Visitors 25,299 Pages 410,684
Monday 24 July - Hits 1,102,320 Visitors 26,761 Pages 400,285
July has already exceeded all previous months and the month is not yet completed.  The hit rate has tripled since Sunday.  As in previous years we expect this to reduce once Wick Gala has finished but in every past year the traffic has never gone back to its previous lower figures.  In the past 12 months the web site has had over 6.2 million visitors compared to the 2005 visitor rate of 4.1 million.  The hit rate stats are mind boggling as the past 12 months was 149 million hits with page views at 52 million and still rising month on month

The early indications in March of new records being broken were proven to be correct.  Visitor numbers were the highest yet for one month taking the first three months of 2006 over the 2 million mark and individual page views to over 10 million.  The daily visitor rate averaged 21,487 in March the highest yet for a single month.  The comparison with March 2005 is dramatic -
March 2005 - Visitors : 167,379  compared March 2006 - The visitor rate has more than trebled - an increase of 249%.

Snow Photos Make Record Breaking Day On Sunday 5 March 2006
With snow being in evidence all over the north Caithness folk took their digital cameras out and sent in masses of photos to Caithness.org.  Such was the interest that the audience soared over Sunday to new heights for a single day with 27,832 visits being recorded and 196,851 pages all over the web site being viewed.

Records Still Being Broken And Bigger Than Ever In 2006
Caithness.org seems to be continuing it seemingly unending run of record breaking as yet again for the past two months the numbers climbed even higher than anything yet seen.  The totals are remarkable and beneath the totals lie some amazing stats.  For example the new Arts section is getting over 70,000 visitors a month looking at 180,000 pages both news and look ups for contact information.  The Business Index and Message Boards are booming with the Business section now clocking over 4000 visitors per day whilst the Message Board with the increase in job ads and cars for sale reaching over 2200 visitors per day.
But we aint seemingly seen nothing yet as the first two days in March have broken more records.  On 1 March the web site received 27,464 visitors and on the 2 March 25,998 visitors.  This is yet another huge rise which if continued would take Caithness.org towards 7 million visitors for the year.  Who can say. The early indications are for more records yet to be broken.  Already in 2006 Caithness.org has had 1.2 million visitors.  No earlier year comes close to this.  2003 saw the web site breach the one million figure for a year for the first time. Growth continued in 2004 with a huge surge in 2005 to breach the 4million. Now coming within range is a chance that figure will double in 2006.
For advertisers on the web site this is great news as the banner shows on individual pages are comparable with the page views.  Single banners are being show on average 70,000 per month or at present at least 840,000 times a year for £130 making this possibly the cheapest advertising around.  That's more than 64 shows for a penny.  6400 for £1.  Combined with a FREE business page this is amazing value. We hope more Caithness businesses will consider using the site as a way of supporting its continuation for people wanting Caithness information but also because it makes good business sense.

Caithness.org Breaks The Records Yet Again In 2005
2005 smashed all previous totals for visitors and hit rates.
Totals for the 12 months to 31 December 2005 were -

The increase in visitors and hit rates has been truly amazing in 2005 as a whole series of records have been smashed. 2005 trebled the visitor numbers and was over 4.1 million visitors. The hit rate passed the 100million hits to end the year on a whopping 140,105,910.  Some interesting figures for the year are -  Page Views in excess of 50 million - Average Daily Page views in December 146,221 - Average Daily Caithness Business Index look ups 17,893 - over half a million in December alone.  There were 58,963 visitors to the Arts pages in December checking out 119,535 pages.  There are over 1500 visitors per day to the Caithness.org Message Boards for discussions and big increases in the FREE classified ads where people in Caithness are selling almost anything.  The Message Boards are now getting in excess of half a million page views per month.  The new sports section saw over 4000 visitors in December.  The What's On had 230,708 pages looked at in December.
Caithness.org advertisers will be happy as banners not only show on the Caithness.org web sites but on the Sutherland and other smaller web sites.  The stats for these are not included in the above stats meaning they get even higher shows.

Sutherland Business Index had 40,085 visitors averaging 1,317 per day and is still growing with more new businesses being added regularly.  This month saw the visitor record broken even beating the now traditionally high month of July when many visitors look at huge numbers of Gala, Highland Games and County show photos.  This month we added the Caithness Pets Corner  This has proved to be instantly popular with photos coming in every day.  We were advised at short notice that our Forums/Message Boars were to be switched off by our server company as other web sites with a similar script were not keeping up to date with fixes and patches and this was allowing hackers into the server causing problems for them. the decision to switch off all of the message boards including ours which was being kept up to date meant Niall had to go into over drive to check out new forum script and change it all over.   He managed this in double quick time having it all installed in one day working on it for over 15 hours. It is up and running but there is still much work to do setting up various new aspect and changing the layout.  Downside for us is that we now have to pay for our Forums whereas the old one was a free script.  As ever photos are very popular and we continue to add places in Caithness and Sutherland and added a new idea - Roads in Sutherland that we will start this for Caithness later.  The idea is to join up many of the places we already have in the A - Z Photo Galleries.  October 2004 had 108,087 visitors.  A year later the numbers have quadrupled on Caithness.org and

September 2005 Stats

compared to September 2004 Hits : 5,610.871 Visitors : 97,168
July on Caithness.org is now the busiest month each year due to the huge interest in the Galas and events that take place in that month.  As the years roll by we can see a pattern where July takes the site to new records and never quite falls back to the lower figures but carries on at a slightly higher level than previously.  The web site in September lost about one and a half days due to problems at the server.
An interesting factor is the huge surge still going on over the year as a whole.  the visitors in 9 months to September 2005  were 2,664,238 compared to the 12 months of 2004 of 1,345,310. 
The Caithness Business Index has grown significantly with on average 90,000 visitors each month.  The Sutherland Business Index stands separately for our stats and is growing significantly as more information is added.  Currently that site gets around 40,000 visitors a month and is growing steadily.
Banner ads get the advantage of circulating round all of our sites and several of the smaller ones we have built where the owners wish to be involved in banner circulation to promote other Caithness or Sutherland businesses.

July broke all the records and continued the final week as we had noted earlier when the highest daily visitor numbers were reached on 25 July.  July in Caithness is packed with events and these have proved popular ever since we began to highlight them a few years ago.  The gala/show/games photos have proved to be more popular than ever and there seems no limit to visitor appetite for them.  During July we published almost 3000 new photographs mainly of the various events but continued with anything of interest sent in to us or we attended.  Looking back  - the month of July has always been the high point of the year and numbers fall back in August but interestingly never to the previous lower level as new surfers seem to find out about the site in July and this phenomenon appears to be global as our visitors from outwith the county continues to rise.  Thanks to everyone for looking in and everyone who sent in photos or items for the site.

Wick Gala Tops The Lot - Biggest Day Ever On Caithness.org

Hits and Page views reached new heights following Wick Gala and although visitor numbers did not exceed the last record for that figure made on 18 July. We are holding our breath for Mondays stats as Monday is usually one of the busiest on the web site.  July 2005 is already guaranteed to be the biggest month ever as the numbers stacked up already take us to the June figures for visitors with a week to go.  In fact the number of pages viewed has already broken the record breaking figure for the whole of June and now stands at 5,973,857 and hits already in excess of 12 million for July.  July has always been a month that sees unusual growth in the activity on the web site due to the huge number of events on in Caithness at this time.

County Show Photos Help Take Caithness.org To New Heights
Monday 18 July 2005 took the increasing visitor numbers for July to the highest ever.  A staggering combined total of 17,549 visitors for one day makes this easily the biggest yet.  Page views hit 357,274 with the total hits an amazing 769,423.  The daily average visitor numbers stand at 13,134 well above the daily average last month which was itself a record.

The surge of visitors in May has once again been amazing.  It seems that the ripples are still going out across the web.  The Business Index has seen big rises in visitor numbers and the new Arts Index section is likely to increase the numbers in later months as it only started part in the latter half of May.  Page view numbers also make incredible reading - in May a fantastic 5,008,969 pages were viewed on Caithness.org and the Business Index.  Advertisers will be glad to know that all the other web sites such Sutherland Business Index and smaller business web sites are not included in these figures.  That means that page views with banner ads have to be added to these totals to get the full advertising picture.

About half the stats were lost at the server so all we can do is average from those available.  what is significant is that a huge surge un visitor numbers is underway with up to 3000 visitors a day more than previously being recorded.  It is already obvious that Caithness.org numbers are lifting off in an unprecedented way and May is looking very likely to smash all the records way beyond anything previously seen.

The first three months of 2005 have shown continual growth in visitor numbers.  The first quarter of 2005 puts the visitor numbers at 451,062 and the hit rate at 28,296,118.  In March a total of 622,598 pages were called from the server by visitors.  Registered users of the message board increased to 1612 (last month 1517).  Castles continue to be hugely popular with visitors to the site.  The message board is increasingly busy with over 2000 messages having been posted in March (Total 19,276 currently on the boards) Total messages posted are probably higher as weeding of the boards continually reduces the numbers actually posted for a number of reasons - eg items for sale out of date etc. A year ago March 2004 visitor numbers were 141,038 making March 2005 18.6% higher.  On current growth in numbers of visitors 2005 could be half a million higher than 2004 with current projections estimating 1.8 million visitors in 2005.  Once again we say thanks to all our visitors and growing numbers of contributors to the web site.  Busiest time on the web site is between 7.00 and 10.00pm.  Caithness.org has for some time like many web sites viewed 24 hours a  day with no time at all in the 24 hours without visitors.  Quietest times on the site are between 1.00am and 6.00am   Busiest day was 24th March with 7,194 visitors. Visitors from overseas are increasing all the time with USA, Canada and Holland leading the way.  Following on are Australia, Germany and New Zealand.  Of 123 countries listed as having visitors to Caithness.org every European country is listed but many others are moving up month after month such as Japan now at number 20 in the list.  After Holland and Germany the next European countries sending visitors to the site are France, Denmark, Poland, Norway, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Greece. In at 28th is Brazil and 29th Israel.

The totals are down compared to January but February only has 28 days so for comparison you have to look at the daily rates. The daily number of visitors was up.  Visitors to Caithness.org in 2005 have already passed a quarter of a million standing at 283,683.  Feb 2004 visitors were 121,317. In addition to local traffic visitors came from 121 countries. The most popular search terms before arriving at Caithness.org is still castles and variations on phrases including the word castle.  The Message Board again broke records itself with 96 of its 1517 registered users being online at the same time on 7 February.  The boards which include items for sale have over 17,000 separate messages showing.

Previous Caithness.org Traffic Records About To Be History
We are bracing ourselves for the biggest surge in traffic on the web site ever as we see the record visitor number s now coming on to the web site.  As at 25th January the visitor numbers had soared to the highest daily number ever.  the cumulative total is already almost 10,000 visitors higher than December.  With six days left to count till the end of the month a number of records are sure to be broken.  Hits for January are already past 8 million almost 2 million more than December.  This is already takes January to the highest hit rate ever on the web site.  Lots of folk must have got computers for Christmas.  Even the Message Board surged to a new record on Tuesday 25th January with 83 users online at the same time.  The January 2004 visitor rate was amazing at 126,051 but this month looks set to exceed that easily as the figure stands at 118,378 at the end of Tuesday 25th.

Visitor Record Broken In 2004 Even With Lost Server Days
2004 broke the records for visitors and hits again in 2004 even although we had a few days of server problems in December where the site was not available.  Despite those few days of problems in December the visitor rate is still up reaching 1,345,310 visitors with a hit rate in excess of 78million.  Photographs of all kinds continue to be very popular and the castles section shows no sign of waning in the sections.  The Message Boards continue to gain in popularity and that despite the restrictions that bar anyone using a web based email address such as hotmail, Aol and yahoo.  The rise in visitor numbers has gone on steadily since the first year Caithness.org was established.  We would like to thank our many contributors of items for the site and for all of you out there for visiting.  Some unexpected pages have come to the fore such as Latin American Recipes which is itself in the increasingly popular Recipes section.

Hit Rate New Record But Will Visitor Rate Break Another Record
November stats just added up and show the 2004 hit rate already way ahead of 2003.  With only days to go till the end of 2004 it is touch and go as to whether or not the visitor rate will set a new annual record on Caithness.org.  Visitor rates are well ahead of the average daily rate to break the 2003 record.

Sutherland Business Index Make-Over Completed
Although there might not be much to see fro the user end the Sutherland business index has now had the same make over as the Caithness Business Pages.  The new set up at our end means we can deal with many more requests for new pages and updates up to 20 times faster than previously.  what does this mean?  Well it means we can spend time delivering more content and adding new web sites to the Business index range of sites.

Niall has been busy over the last few months with a massive overhaul of the business section.  A new database will allow for a much better listing for businesses in multiple categories and business news items will be able to be added much faster and from any locations - wherever we happen to be on any day.   The new set up is now on the Caithness Business Pages and will soon be set up on the Sutherland Business Pages.  The greater flexibility now created will allow for other enhancements at later dates.

Stats Still On The Up
August was a quieter month than July in terms of photographs looked at following the record numbers in July.  Visitor numbers were higher by a small margin.  The hit rate although not as high as the huge July total was still almost 7 million the second highest hit month since we began.

As the site gets ever busier we have had little time to be too concerned with the stats but finally we have caught up with our arithmetic.  July was a truly phenomenal month on the web site as the gala pictures and other events combined to bring folk on to the web site in huge numbers.  But they stayed to look at record numbers of pages and this pushed out traffic massively beyond anything we have ever seen on Caithness.org. Also finally adding up 2003 - Caithness.org had 1,328,858 Visitors with a hit rate of 67,328,858 - the biggest year yet.

May 2004

April 2004 Visitors Down On Previous Month But Still Great
Visitor numbers to the web site in April were down on the record breaking March figures but still put Caithness.org in the top league amongst local area web sites in Scotland.  With an average of over 4000 visitors a day in the month this still represents one of the busiest web sites ion the Highlands.  For advertisers it should be remembered that these figures do not include the many other web sites run by Caithness.org and Scorrie Internet Services.  The Sutherland business Index continues to grow and as soon as we get time a new Sutherland site will join the business index.

March 2004

March 2004 Breaks The Record For Monthly Visitor Rates
Yes it's happened again and Caithness.org stats have soared to the highest yet in the month of March.  The monthly total for March was 141,038 - a daily average of 4,549.  The annual visitor rate is now approaching 1.7 million visitors (monthly hits in excess of 6 million).   Thanks to all our visitors and to everyone who contribute article, information and photographs.

February Stats
February 2004 stats went to new heights for Caithness.org with a daily visitor rate of 4172 making it look likely that the annual rate will easily exceed 1.5 million and 2 million a distinct possibility.  It was only in august 2003 that the web site passed into the one million a year category after more than three years of steady growth.  The growth rate is now expanding very fast.  Caithness.org is now a truly global web site with visitors from overseas increasing in numbers faster than the local visitor numbers.  Perhaps this should not be a surprise as the Caithness population is only 28,000 and the potential for growth is to say the least hugely elsewhere.  What is more surprising is that so many people should be interested in the information and photographs of a web site that is still very much a local one.

Making The Front Page More Dynamic
Over the past few weeks we have been introducing new automatically updating content to the front page.  First in was the message boards under the heading "In Our Forums" drawing the latest entries on the Message board to the front page for instant look at what has been the latest comments on the topics.  The "What's On" now adds a daily what's On to the front page leeching content for each day at midnight on to the front page from the main What's On board.  And just added is the Jobs In Caithness section being updated each time a new job is added by any employer who joins the system completely free.  Now Caithness.Org can transmit information about any job instantly.  No waiting no delay - just 24 hours a day coverage and free of charge to employers.  new message will take priority but all jobs can remain until removed by an employer.  It's simple , fast and we feel sure will get results and best of all the cost is just a couple of minutes to paste in the information about the job from other material on a PC.  All that is needed is to be set up by Niall.  We think this is the biggest revolution in recruitment in the north of Scotland - Fast Easy and Efficient and reaching a large and growing target audience.

January Surge In Visitor Numbers Is The Biggest Yet
The biggest month yet for Caithness.Org.  The Message board is increasingly poplar and the classified ads which are FREE are gaining ground every month.

2002

Review of 2002
January started 2002 off with a record breaking month in our stats with 70,108 visitors, reading 393,338 pages.  We could only guess that a lot of new PCs were bought over Christmas and our big surge in numbers was from mainly new visitors. With the numbers only increasing in February, we predicted around 900,000 visitors reading over 5 million pages as our 2002 totals.  By this time we were beginning to see the work Colin had put into our search engine promotion during 2001 really start to take hold.  Everything was pointing to bigger web space and bandwidth requirements so a new deal was struck with our hosts giving us access to 1.5gb of space and 15gb of bandwidth per month.  Would it be enough?

As the page views grew so did our banner impressions giving our advertisers unprecedented coverage on a local web site.  This coverage was to increase further with the introduction of our new site, the Sutherland Business Index, taking with it the ideas and goals from its predecessor, the Caithness Business Index.

April saw Bill being asked to speak at the well attended Highlands & Islands Community Web Site Conference in Inverness which also included a series of workshops, a short report is available.

July, August & September saw our stats grow continually with the our biggest month to date arriving in November with 92,461 visitors reading 1,538,359 pages, a huge increase on the start of the year.  What we now know as a seasonal dip came in December and we finished 2002 having had XXXX visitors reading XXXX pages.

The Caithness Business Index gets promoted from section to website as its launched to stand on its own.  in September we find that we have been nominated for a yell.com award (best community site) and travel to the award ceremony in London to discover that we have not only won the Best Community Site award but also Web Site Of The Year pipping such giants as the BBC and Microsoft to the post.
